Last month, Clydach Community Garden hosted the first two sessions of the Community Green Spaces programme, a new project organised by The Environment Centre. Based in Swansea, the Environment Centre are a community hub who have been inspiring positive action for a greener and healthier future by championing environmental action for over 25 years. The Community Green Spaces training is an 8 week course supporting local community leaders to set up projects, learn new skills and share best practice from existing green ventures.
The two sessions we supported were ‘Developing Green Spaces' – a best practice overview of how community spaces can be used, and ‘Organisation and Invisible Structures', looking at constitutional frameworks, co-design, democracy and inclusivity in a community green space. Project Delivery Manager Hannah Norman presented at the sessions, sharing the journey of Clydach Community Garden, how we operate as an organisation, how we manage our green space and lessons learned along the way. The sessions were attended by members of local projects from across the Swansea region and great connections were made. Paul Jennings and Ollie Lister from the Environment Centre shared best practice from a wider scope of projects and led informative discussions on green principles, community engagement and project development

The project is funded by Levelling Up, a UK Government funding scheme which aims to grow local economies, create jobs and support communities. There are six further Community Green Spaces sessions being delivered over the coming months:
