Glyncollen School visit the garden!

Back in April, Project Delivery Manager Hannah Norman and Chairperson Sonia Baker were invited to Glyncollen Primary School to run a gardening session with the children. With Spring in the air the children planted peas and sweetcorn in pots to take home, and learnt all about our work at the garden. We had a tour of the school to see current and future growing sites and it was wonderful to see the children learning through horticulture activities delivered as part of, and in addition to the curriculum.

To return the invite, this week we welcomed the same class into our community garden and had 34 green fingered friends help with the gardening activities! As a group we learnt all about how plants grow, and the children did a great job of potting on tomatoes and lettuce to take home. We learnt about different varieties of fruits and vegetables and even planted out some beetroot and strawberry plants!

There was even time for refreshments at our 'tea shed' to hydrate and refuel up ready for more gardening! We loved having Glyncollen Primary School visit the garden and hopefully we can welcome them back again soon.

We have recently received funding from Hubub Foundation as one of 100 projects across the UK delivering valuable green activities in the community and connecting people of all ages with nature. The Nature Hubs funding in collaboration with Starbucks is supporting a range of our activities this Summer including running sessions to further engage children with nature and horticulture activities. If your school is local to the garden and you would be interested in a visit, please contact us at clydachcommunitygarden@gmail.com
